Supporting Students
Our Work With Schools
Family Promise of Tualatin Valley works closely with local school districts to support families at risk of and currently experiencing homelessness. We partner directly with district staff to ensure students have the supports they need to maintain academic success while experiencing housing instability.
When students experience houselessness, school districts offer them and their families rights and services under the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act. The 2023-24 school year shows that the rate of homeless students has doubled since the previous school year. Sadly, this means that the need in our community is growing.
Setting Students up for Success
While in shelter, we keep students with their families and in their home schools in an effort to minimize educational disruptions, prioritize stability, and keep them learning alongside their peers.
Through Bridge to Home, we offer school supplies, back-to-school clothes, and volunteer-run tutoring programs for all grades as part of our enrichment programming. We also support students’ extra-curricular needs, including supplies for outdoor school, summer camp opportunities, and art projects.
